Roma Subalterna
Research + exhibition project
2021
“The publication Roma Subalterna is an anti-triumphal anti-guide, a critical and anti-hierarchical vademecum inspired by various models of sub-investigation of the urban environment to observe and photograph a decolonized and deconstructed Rome. By reconsidering the Roman photographic campaign and the concept of photo-stability, itinerant meetings were organized with guide-mediators who served as cultural helmsmen inspired by a particular attitude. [...]
The photographs propose different ways of traversing the urban field from a subordinate and liminal perspective, experimenting with various anti-perspectives: the resonance fields and sensitivities of non-refractory artifacts, the museographic fragility of objects and artifacts de-territorialized by colonial conquest; the piercing amnesia of the narrative of the void left by the erased memory of the deposed imperial Urbe.”
Project curated by Viaindustriae and Stefano Graziani.
