L’albergo della lontananza /
Far far stay

Research + editorial project
2021-2025

An intermediate space is, by definition, what lies between various possibilities. When different elements come into contact, they influence and overlap with each other, creating new hybrid forms. Translation is nothing more than one of these processes, where unique expressions and understandings emerge depending on various contaminations.

How can one find what lies between two things? Is it possible to represent the invisible? How can two people be together if they live on opposite hemispheres of the world?
Is it possible to build a bridge between two places? What happens when translating from one language to another?
Can translation itself be considered a bridge? And what ifone gets lost in translation? In what ways does distance add or take something away?

The project takes place between Italy and Chile and is based on certain architectural situations that have been researched or intentionally created to define the role and limits of photography and architecture concerning themes of distance, remoteness, and translation. The generator and catalyst of the entire project is a long-distance relationship between two people on two distant continents who seek to come closer by analyzing the space that separates them.

There are five situations: the bridge, the two squares, the room/the doubt, the kiss and the desert.
